EDIT COLOR VFX ANIMATION MIX DELIVER
This is a format I’m seeing more and more these days. An Agency led, low to mid budget campaign, that needs an all in one solution to take the project from the camera to delivery, across many different channels and platforms.
That generally means the creative editing, color correction, VFX, title and graphic animations in AE and Motion, final mix and then conversion to various aspect ratios and compression schemes for rollout across the multi channel media world.
Its not uncommon to be swapping out the product and branding to work across multiple markets and language regions too.

The project I’m using as a case study below also needed to complete color as a VFX task utilizing AI Rotoscoping, AI up -sampling of footage (to zoom into the product, a thin piece of wire), AI audio sweetening and manipulation, and some careful title safety calibration to account for differences between TV, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok UI’s.
Because of dual branding for this product, we had to engineer workflows that allowed for changes to artwork, much of which resided in the background, up till the last minute. The ability to construct a workflow that allowed these sort of artistic changes to cascade through all edits in all versions (42 separate timelines) is what makes it possible to service these kind of jobs on budget and on time with the minimum of fuss.
HYLANDS
This project required a second editor because of a very aggressive schedule to delivery, so the cutest and funniest version was cut by my good friend Maris Lidaka. We both shared color adjustments and generally picked each others pockets for a couple of weeks. Remote color grading with the Agency ECD over FaceTime during lockdown was easy and effective.
Its a great example of taking 3 lovely scripts, and really leveraging a 2 day lifestyle shoot to give a more considered and artistic feel to a sweet little campaign.
